A buffet breakfast and hot lunch are served to the public each weekday. More than 12,000 meals are served each year to people who come for the food and companionship at these gatherings.
In addition, The Center hosts a client-choice food pantry daily where lower income individuals and families can choose from a wide variety of nutritious foods. In the summer and fall, the pantry receives donations of fresh fruit and vegetables from local farms. The pantry provides food to more than 2500 households each year.
Thanksgiving Day is a festive occasion at The Center. A multitude of volunteers and staff prepare and serve over 100 holiday meals, while additional volunteers distribute more than 350 meals to shut-in members of the community.
Christmas season is celebrated with a special meal, gift cards for teens and, working with other agencies, a holiday party for younger children.
The Center operates a free boutique where clients can choose clothing, accessories, footwear, bedding, and small household items. 4,000 client-visits were recorded in 2019.
The Center offers access to a broad array of social service agencies throughout Berkshire County with its referral and follow-up program. These services include physical and mental health visits, substance abuse treatment, housing, fuel assistance, educational programs and job placement. The Center also collaborates with local health agencies to provide basic free health screenings, HIV testing and Narcan training.
Community Outreach and Collaboration
The Christian Center is a hub for job training, internships, community service and socialization opportunities for students, the differently-abled, clients in transition, and those in the community who like to volunteer. We work with the Pittsfield Police Department through Coffee with a Cop, Working Cities, the Westside Initiative, and other organizations dedicated to supporting our community.
