Spring Appeal 2015

Dear Friends,

Spring is a perfect time to refresh and reflect. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of our mission: uplifting our community by empowering individuals with dignity, nourishment, and hope. Many less fortunate citizens continue to depend on the generosity of others for the bare essentials of life. To that end, Please join me in supporting the Christian Center’s Spring Appeal.

During this long hard winter, with your donations the staff of The Christian Center was able to ensure that none of our neighbors in need of food went hungry. Since January 1st we have served many hundreds of hot lunches, fed scores of families from our food pantry, and clothed dozens of adults and children in dire need of warm clothing. We have also kept our lights on and our furnace burning to provide a warm refuge from the harsh elements.

This is a time of economic uncertainty in Berkshire county, and thus The Christian Center is particularly in need of financial assistance. Private donations and government funding are down, and we continue to rely on our endowment. This is impacting our ability to continue providing critically needed services to an ever-increasing number of low-income people.

Please help us meet the basic needs of our neighbors including:

Feeding the hungry including the homeless, our seniors, and also our children whose health, growth, and development are adversely affected by food insecurity and poor diet.

Locating affordable housing and emergency shelter including fuel and utility assistance through our intake and referral process.

Providing high quality programming that is educating, nurturing, and inspiring individuals and families and also our at-risk children.

With your support, this summer we are hoping that we will be able to continue our W’CEP (Westside Children’s Enrichment Program). Last year this program included a week long camp experience free to children in in our community. This year we hope to offer four weeks, and with your help, we are confident this will happen. W’CEP is designed to offer low income children a quality summer experience by engaging them in activities such as art projects, nature walks, and dancing while also providing them with a nutritious lunch, all within a safe environment.

To continue our valuable work we need your help. Your donation will help ensure that our programs and services are available to all who depend on us. Please make your tax-deductible contribution to The Christian Center by using the enclosed remittance envelope or by visiting our secure online donation page atwww.christiancenterpittsfield.org. The Christian Center is also very grateful for gifts matched by employers, so please request the appropriate form from any participating and send it to us with their gift. Matching gifts are an easy way to double or even triple your gift.

With our deepest gratitude and appreciation for your generosity,

Ellen Merritt
